WWF Survival Overnight Stay for Children
Discover the adventures of nature! For children aged 10 to 14. With an overnight stay in the forest in a specially constructed emergency shelter, we realistically simulate a survival situation and learn which survival priorities to set. Part of the WWF Zurich Nature Experience Days 2025

About the event
In the 2-day course you will learn about overnight stays in nature and its acoustics, and you will also gain the experience of having slept in a self-made emergency shelter.
Other course content includes:
- How do I protect myself from the weather using natural materials?
- plant-based emergency food from nature
- Fire generation
- Prevention of a survival situation and how I can best prepare for it
- Water treatment
- Handling the knife
- Orientation
This includes:
- The safe construction of the fire and its benefits
- Various lighter-making techniques
- Finding tinder materials
More information:
Requirements for participation: The children will spend the night outdoors. They must not be afraid of the dark or sleeping away from home. The child can request to be picked up by their parents until 8:00 PM the evening before.
Food and Drink: Children are advised to bring a snack box for a quick bite. Otherwise, everything you need will be provided. IMPORTANT: Everyone must take their own trash with them.
Bring: backpack, sleeping bag, sleeping mat, knife (a fixed-blade knife is recommended), flashlight, water bottle, tick and mosquito repellent, tweezers for tick removal, writing materials, toothbrush and toothpaste, personal medication, snack box with afternoon snack (see provisions), sunscreen. Optional: mosquito net, sit pad, work gloves
The event will take place regardless of the weather. In the event of exceptionally severe weather, we will inform you the day before.
Clothing: Wear weather-appropriate clothing, sturdy footwear, outdoor clothing, and a rain jacket/trousers (in case of rain). For your safety, wear only long trousers and sleeves to reduce the risk of injuries from undergrowth or tick bites.
